Report: Oklahoma manhunt subject killed by gunshot to neck

Published November 02, 2016

Associated Press

Oklahoma's state medical examiner's office says the man who led officers on a weeklong manhunt died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Amy Elliott, a spokeswoman for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, says Michael Vance Jr.'s death on Sunday was ruled a homicide. Elliott said Wednesday that a full report is still pending but could show how many times Vance was shot by officers.

Dashboard camera and helicopter footage released Tuesday depicts a fierce gun fight between state troopers and Vance, who was wanted for the killings of two relatives and the shootings of three law enforcement officers. Vance died in the shootout.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators say five troopers who fired their weapons were placed on routine administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
