Prosecutors want supervised release for an ex-New York City policeman acquitted in a conspiracy to kidnap, kill and eat women and aren't seeking to send him back to prison — at least not yet.

Prosecutors say in a pre-sentencing memorandum filed Tuesday one year of supervised release is sufficient for Gilberto Valle's (VAL'-eez) conviction for unlawfully accessing a federal database. Valle will be sentenced next week.

The government notes it's appealing a judge's decision to override a jury verdict and order Valle acquitted on the most serious charge.

Valle has been dubbed the Cannibal Cop by tabloids.

But defense lawyers say in court papers he's well on his way to becoming a model citizen. They say he hopes to become a lawyer and stays in contact with inmates he met during 21 months in prison.
