Prosecutors say video, audio to show Mexican drug cartel member planned to ship cocaine to US

Federal prosecutors say FBI video and audio recordings capture a member of a violent Mexican drug cartel discussing ways to expand the gang's empire into the United States and Europe.

Rafael Humberto Celaya Valenzuela is charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of cocaine plus heroin and methamphetamine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Feith (feeth) delivered his opening statement in U.S. District Court in New Hampshire on Tuesday after a jury was selected.

Two others arrested with Valenzuela in 2012 have pleaded guilty to working with the Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico. One of them, Jesus Gutierrez-Guzman, is a cousin of the cartel's notorious leader, Joaquin Guzman, known as "El Chapo."

Feith says during several meetings, including in New Hampshire, cartel members discussed shipping tons of cocaine.
