Prosecutors in ex-Patriot Hernandez's case cite 'direct evidence' of perjury by his fiancee

Prosecutors say they have "direct evidence" that the fiancee of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez lied to the grand jury that indicted him on a murder charge in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, including about a box she discarded at Hernandez's direction.

The prosecution said in a filing Wednesday it has evidence that contradicts multiple pieces of Shayanna Jenkins' testimony.

Jenkins has pleaded not guilty to perjury. Prosecutors say she told the grand jury she couldn't recall where she disposed of the box, which was in a plastic bag, and that she didn't try to conceal the action. It's not clear what the box contained.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in Lloyd's 2013 shooting death.

A message was left for Jenkins' attorney, who has sought to have the charge dismissed.
