Prosecutors asking judge to drop perjury charge against Aaron Hernandez's fiancee

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Massachusetts prosecutors are asking a judge to drop a perjury charge against the fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez because of an immunity deal.

Prosecutors filed a motion Thursday in Bristol County Superior Court to dismiss the perjury case against Shayanna Jenkins, citing her testimony against Hernandez. The former Patriots tight end was convicted last month of killing Odin Lloyd, who was dating Jenkins' sister.

A hearing in Jenkins' case is scheduled for Friday.

Jenkins had pleaded not guilty to perjury for allegedly lying to a grand jury investigating's Lloyd's death. She was granted immunity by the court in February and was compelled to testify in Hernandez's trial.
