Published August 09, 2016

Associated Press

Police suspect a 30-year-old runner whose body was found in a New York City marsh was strangled and possibly sexually assaulted.

Police say that they were called for a report of a woman who left her home around 5 p.m. Tuesday for a run in Howard Beach, Queens, and didn't return.

They say the body of Karina Vetrano was later found in a marsh hours with signs of strangulation and with her clothes in disarray.

The city's medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death.

There were no arrests.
