Police: Student, 17, charged as adult with attempted murder in Baltimore high school stabbing

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Police say a 17-year-old boy has been charged as an adult with attempted murder in the stabbing of a schoolmate in a Baltimore high school classroom, leaving the other teen critically wounded.

Police announced the charge against Donte Crawford in a news release Wednesday morning, a day after the midday stabbing at Renaissance Academy High School. Police say the wounded teen made it through surgery, but remains in critical condition. Police say Crawford is awaiting a bail hearing.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith said Tuesday that Crawford, a 10th-grader, went into an occupied third-floor classroom, stabbed a 17-year-old 11th-grader and ran away. Smith said Crawford was arrested a short time later at home, but it wasn't clear what prompted the attack.

Students are attending classes at another site Wednesday.
