Police seek 5 black youths after Jewish school bus blaze

Published May 10, 2016

Associated Press

New York City police say they're looking for at least five black youths in connection with the burning of a Jewish school bus.

An 11-year-old boy already has been arrested in the Sunday fire and is being charged with arson as a juvenile.

Police Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Tuesday the group of youths took cardboard boxes on the unlocked bus and set them on fire. The case is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

It was the third recent possible hate crime in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood, site of race riots in the early 1990s. The driver's side mirror on a bus from a different school was smashed with a brick Friday. And a man dressed in religious Jewish clothing was punched in the face by a 13-year-old boy who was arrested Thursday.
