Police: officer shoots armed carjacking suspect after crash

Published January 22, 2016

Associated Press

Authorities say an officer shot and wounded an armed carjacking suspect who crashed a stolen car and then pointed a gun at the officer.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported on its Facebook page that the suspect crashed the car Friday after realizing police were in pursuit.

Police say the suspect, who has not been identified, got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at Sgt. Mike Moon.

Police say Moon struck the suspect with his car, but realized the suspect still had the gun in hand. Police say Moon shot the suspect at least twice.

The suspect fled, but was later caught and is being treated for injuries.

The races of the officer and suspect weren't immediately known.
