Police: Man found dead in car fire intentionally set blaze

Published July 28, 2016

Associated Press

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office says the man whose body was found in a burning car at a gas station in Virginia intentionally set the blaze.

Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. James Cooper says in a news release Wednesday that investigators found that 37-year-old Zaheer Mazhar of Richmond set the fire at a BP station Monday night.

Cooper says the car became engulfed in flames. Firefighters put out the blaze, and Mazhar was found dead in the backseat.

The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
