Police: Lyft driver was drunk while transporting passenger

Published March 15, 2016

Associated Press

Texas police say a driver for the ride-hailing service Lyft made it about three miles with a passenger before he was pulled over and arrested on a drunken driving charge.

An Austin police affidavit says the driver, Allen Edmonds, was veering into adjacent lanes March 8 before he was pulled over.

His passenger, Alex Grant, told KVUE-TV in Austin (http://bit.ly/21tfOs4 ) that he watched the police officer conduct a sobriety test and that his driver "failed it pretty hard."

Lyft spokeswoman Alexandra LaManna said in a statement that the company has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for its drivers and that it doesn't tolerate behavior that threatens passenger safety.

LaManna says Edmonds no longer drives for Lyft.

A phone listing for Edmonds could not be found.
