Police: Death of 11-month-old baby left inside SUV in South Florida most likely an accident

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Police in South Florida say the death of an 11-month-old baby left inside a sport utility vehicle parked outside an apartment near Fort Lauderdale most likely was a horrific accident.

Lauderhill police spokesman Gregory Solowsky says about an hour after unloading groceries Wednesday afternoon, the baby's family realized the child wasn't in the house and returned to the vehicle and found the baby inside.

Solowsky says the baby was taken to the hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

On Thursday, the child's parents faced a Broward County family court judge. Attorney Jeff Levy says the mother's four remaining children were placed with relatives while the Department of Children and Families investigates.

Solowsky says the parents are being cooperative with the investigation and that the entire family is extremely distraught.
