Police: 2 wounded, officer hurt in shooting in Tennessee

Published February 10, 2016

Associated Press

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Ripley, where two people were wounded by police and an officer was injured.

The TBI says a preliminary investigation shows the shootings took place, about 55 miles northeast of Memphis, after officers stopped a vehicle while in search of a man on the TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List.

Authorities say a female driver, trying to get away from police, reversed the vehicle toward an officer. The TBI says the officer fired shots at the vehicle before he was struck by the car. The woman, according to authorities, drove forward toward two other officers, who then fired into the vehicle.

Officials say the suspects are not believed to have life-threatening injuries and the officer was flown to a Memphis hospital.
