Plane crashes in NY's Hudson Valley; 2 dead

A small plane practicing landings has crashed and burned near an airport in New York's Hudson Valley, killing the two people aboard.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Arlene Salac (SA'-lahk) says the pilot of the Cessna 172 was practicing touch-and-go landings — landing and taking off again without stopping. She says the pilot was approaching a runway at the Dutchess County Airport when the plane crashed.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jonathan Hughes says the plane went down about noon Tuesday in a field just south of the airport in Wappinger, 65 miles north of New York City.
Salac says federal investigators at the scene have reported the plane was destroyed and both victims died. The cause of the crash hasn't been determined.
No phone number is available for the plane's owner, Millbrook Flight LLC, of nearby Poughquag (POH'-kwayg).
