Philadelphia police probing arrest after video surfaces showing suspect being punched, kicked

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

The Philadelphia Police Department has opened an internal affairs investigation into an April arrest after a video surfaced showing what appeared to be officers repeatedly punching and kicking a suspect.

The department announced the review of the April 3 arrest on Thursday, the day the video appeared on YouTube.

An officer is heard saying, "Here comes the Taser," but police say there's no indication one was used on 22-year-old Tyree Carroll.

Police say Carroll fought with officers when they stopped him for a drug violation and bit two of them.

Carroll is charged with drug possession, assault and resisting arrest. Police say he had less than a quarter of an ounce of crack on him.

His lawyer's voicemail box was full. The lawyer did not respond to a faxed message.
