Pennsylvania police chief to face trial on indecent assault charges

Trial is scheduled to begin this week in the case of a suspended northeastern Pennsylvania police chief accused of having sexually assaulted a teenage girl almost a decade ago.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune says jury selection is scheduled Tuesday in Lackawanna County Court for the trial of Old Forge police chief Larry Semenza. Charges against him include indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of a minor.

Prosecutors allege that he and former police captain Jamie Krenitsky assaulted the girl beginning in 2004 when she was 15 and a junior firefighter. She said she had a sexual relationship with Semenza through 2007.

Krenitsky pleaded guilty last month to one misdemeanor count of indecent assault. A former borough firefighter pleaded guilty to a similar charge in December.
