Parents say 4 black Ohio high school students expelled unfairly over rap videos, sue district

The parents of four black students who allege their children were expelled over rap music videos are suing an Ohio school district, charging violation of free speech and other constitutional rights.

The parents' attorney says black students were unfairly targeted and expelled from Colerain High School in suburban Cincinnati for making rap music videos off campus. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati against the Northwest Local School District and others.

The district's attorney says 14 students were suspended and recommended for expulsion in April primarily over threats at school and in social media toward students or staff. He says black and white students were disciplined and all have returned to school.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and removal of expulsions from students' records.
