Parents Arrested After Pennsylvania Kids Call From Closet

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

WILKINSBURG, Pa.-- Police say a man and woman from suburban Pittsburgh face charges after two young children called 911 after getting themselves stuck in a closet while home alone.

Wilkinsburg police say an 8-year-old girl used a cellphone to call 911 after she and her 6-year-old brother got trapped in a closet Tuesday afternoon. Officers entered the home through a window and freed the children.

The girl's mother told investigators her boyfriend was at the home when she left around 7 a.m. She told officers the father was supposed to watch the children but didn't show up.

The parents were both arrested on endangerment charges. Police say the woman's boyfriend will also be charged.

The children were unhurt and handed over to county child welfare officials.
