Orlando nightclub shooting victim's condition improves

Published August 18, 2016

Associated Press

Officials at an Orlando hospital say the only survivor of the Pulse nightclub massacre who was still in critical condition has seen their condition improve.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2bo7Gen ) reports that Orlando Regional Medical Center officials said the unidentified patient's condition was upgraded Tuesday to guarded. Officials did not provide further details.

Two days after the June 12 shooting, six victims had remained in critical condition. At the time, Dr. Michael Cheatham said he feared the death toll could go higher. But all of those six patients have survived.

The attack killed 49 people and injured more than 50 others, making it the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The gunman, Omar Mateen, was killed by police after a three-hour standoff.
