Officials try to determine if body is ex-gov's son

Published November 17, 2014

Authorities are trying to determine whether the body found over the weekend on an East Texas ranch is a son of former Texas Gov. Bill Clements.

Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt says a wallet belonging to 69-year-old Gill Clements has been recovered as authorities work to identify a body that was found on his neighbor's ranch. Clements was first reported missing on Thursday.

When authorities on Friday went to search Howard Granger's ranch, officials say he began shooting at them and Granger was killed.

Officials later found a man's body in a shallow grave on Granger's property.

Nutt did not immediately return a message Monday to The Associated Press. A statement was expected later in the day.

Athens is 60 miles southeast of Dallas.
