Official: California water savings take a dip October but still beat target in the long run

State officials say October's water conservation figures for drought-stricken California are less impressive than in past months.

Felicia Marcus, chairwoman of the State Water Resources Control Board, said the figures to be released Tuesday come as no surprise. She says that October was exceptionally hot.

Marcus says that despite the dip in the latest conservation figures, California is meeting its target when you look at several months altogether.

California is now experiencing its driest four-year span on record.

Gov. Jerry Brown earlier this year ordered Californians to use 25 percent less water. Californians barely beat that in September, saving about 26 percent.

So far, four communities in Southern California have been fined $61,000 each for failing to meet their individual conservation targets.
