Official: 3 shot in Virginia; shooter sought

An official says law enforcement officers are searching for a person who shot three people in Virginia.

Dickenson County Emergency Management Coordinator Richard Thacker said the shooting took place Tuesday morning in Clintwood, in the southwestern part of the state. Thacker says sheriff's deputies are patrolling the area and have surrounded a home near the scene. He says the Virginia State Police Tactical Team has been called in to assist. He says three people were flown to hospitals, but he didn't know how seriously they were injured.

County switchboard operator Cindy Stanley says the nearby complex for Ridgeview Middle and High Schools was locked down at one point, and she didn't know if the lockdown had been lifted yet. Students are out for the summer but staffers were on campus.
