Police say two officers are on leave after shooting a man who confronted them with a gun during a break-in check at a southwestern Virginia home.
Wytheville Police Chief Rick Arnold said in a statement late Wednesday that the officers are on routine paid administrative leave during the department's internal investigation.
Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting, which happened early Wednesday after a woman returned home, heard someone inside and called 911.
Police say two officers found the back door open and a white man pointed a handgun at them. Police say the officers shot him several times. State police say he's being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a Tennessee hospital.
State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller says both officers are white.
