Published March 01, 2016

Associated Press

Police say an officer shot and killed a man following a two-hour standoff at a central Florida home.

Palm Bay police report in a news release that officers responded to the home around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving calls about a man making threats to three construction workers at a neighboring house. A 39-year-old Hispanic man exited the home several times during the standoff but then went back inside.

Police say the man finally came out around 11:30 a.m. carrying a firearm. The release says an officer fired a single shot, killing the suspect.

The man, who police did not immediately identify, was declared dead at the scene.

Police also did not immediately identify the name or the race of the officer.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate.
