No death penalty against 3 transients charged with murder

Prosecutors say they won't seek the death penalty against three young transients accused of robbing and killing a man and woman days apart in Northern California.

The Marin Independent Journal reports (http://bayareane.ws/1pMcQmp) that Marin County District Attorney Ed Berberian announced Wednesday instead, the trio will face a maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole if they are convicted.

The defendants — 18-year-old Lili Alligood, 23-year-old Morrison Haze Lampley and 24-year-old Sean Angold — have pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say the trio stole a gun and killed 23-year-old backpacker Audrey Carey, of Canada, on Oct. 3 in San Francisco. They say two days later they killed 67-year-old tantric yoga teacher Steve Carter, whose body was found near a hiking trail in Marin County.
