New York City police were searching Wednesday for two men who violently robbed a watch store in the city's Diamond District, authorities said.
Officers responded to the Watch Store, located on the eighth floor of a 47th Street building, around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after one of the suspects, posing as a deliveryman, was buzzed into the store, a spokesman for the New York Police Department told FoxNews.com.
The man, who was carrying a shoulder duffel bag with him, brandished a gun and gained access to a store safe, though it was not immediately known what was taken. During the robbery, the second suspect stood in a hallway outside the store, the spokesman said.
Four employees were initially present during the robbery, but when a fifth worker entered the store, he was struck with the gun. Police said the 57-year-old man was not seriously hurt and was speaking with investigators Tuesday night.
The building was evacuated as police searched for the two suspects, both of whom remained at large early Wednesday. Earlier reports that hostages were being held were false, the spokesman added.
By late Tuesday, authorities, who had cordoned off much of the street in the robbery's aftermath, began to remove barriers and police tape, though a sizable force remained outside the building. A group of about two dozen onlookers remained, staring up at the plain, brown building to see what all the commotion was about.
