New Jersey Teen Admits Fatally Stabbing Former Foster Dad

Published November 17, 2014

CAMDEN, N.J.-- A 16-year-old boy has admitted to fatally stabbing his former foster father during a burglary at the man's southern New Jersey home this summer.

Demetrius Minor of Gloucester Township faces a 30-year prison term as part of his plea deal with Camden County prosecutors.

Authorities say Theotis Butts confronted Minor when the youth broke into his home in July to steal cash. Minor stabbed Butts during the subsequent scuffle and fled to New York City, where he was arrested the next day.

Minor entered his plea Friday, the same day he voluntarily agreed to waive his case from juvenile to adult court. As part of his agreement with prosecutors, Minor also pleaded guilty to an unrelated carjacking in Gloucester Township that occurred just weeks before Butts was killed.
