New Hampshire Police Investigate 'Rude' Breastfeeding Claim

A New Hampshire police department is trying to learn if one of its officers was rude to a mother who was breast-feeding her son in a town park.

The interaction between the Dover police officer and 23-year-old Lauren Crouse of Somersworth came during the July 22 "Night Out" festival, which was organized by police as a way to encourage good relations with the community.

Crouse said the incident with the officer came after another woman complained about her breast-feeding her 10-month old son while crouching behind a wall.

Crouse tells Foster' Daily Democrat the officer told her breast-feeding was legal, but she needed to leave because she was "disturbing the peace."

Police Capt. Michael Raiche said they are investigating whether the officer was rude.
