New Hampshire man to be sentenced in beating of infant son

Published November 03, 2016

Associated Press

A New Hampshire man who authorities say broke 17 bones in his infant son's body last year is scheduled to be sentenced this week.

The Portsmouth Herald (http://bit.ly/29T3qQf ) reports that Jose Orta-Santana could face between 10 and 20 years in state prison when he's sentenced Wednesday.

He has pleaded guilty to 10 of 20 first-degree assault charges in the attack on his son.

Police were notified in March 2015 after Boston Children's Hospital treated the child for two skull fractures and multiple broken bones.

Court documents say Orta-Santana first lied to police about his son's injuries before admitting to punching and throwing the child after becoming frustrated with his crying.

He had initially intended to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
