Mom of 4 kids killed in SC mobile home fire faces more charges; deputies say fire accidental

The mother of four South Carolina children killed in a mobile home fire has been charged with homicide by child abuse and illegal conduct toward a child.

Darlington County sheriff's Capt. Andy Locklair said Friday that authorities think the fire started by accident in the kitchen. He says 21-year-old Hope Hawkins was not at home when the first firefighters arrived. She showed up moments later.

He says the mother has given conflicting stories on where she was when the fire started.

It took firefighters less than 10 minutes to put out the fire Wednesday. Authorities say 10-month-old sisters Myasia and Kynasia Hawkins and their brothers, 2-year-old Camaron Mason and 4-year-old Delonta Dixon, died of smoke inhalation.

Police say they are not sure whether Hawkins has an attorney.
