Michigan mom, son plead no contest to abuse in case of boy who was restrained with tape

A woman and her son have pleaded no contest to child abuse, five months after a malnourished 11-year-old boy was found wandering along a road in southwestern Michigan.

The boy told sheriff's deputies that he ran away from his Geneva Township home to escape abuse. He says he was restrained with tape.

Peggy Hamilton and son Randall Hamilton pleaded no contest Thursday to first-degree child abuse in a plea deal that drops other charges. They'll return to Van Buren County court for their sentence on March 1.

Randall Hamilton was the boyfriend of the boy's mother. Investigators removed a 2-year-old child from the home.
