Man shoots at 2 San Francisco Bay Area officers

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Police are searching for a man who fired shots at two San Francisco Bay Area officers.

KNTV reports that the South San Francisco police officers returned fire about 3 a.m. Thursday in a neighborhood. The officers weren't injured.

It wasn't immediately clear if the suspect was shot, and police were searching for him hours later in the neighborhood. Officials advised residents to stay inside.

The shooting comes amid heightened tensions nationwide over attacks on police elsewhere in the country after the killings of unarmed black men by white officers in Missouri and New York.

This week in Los Angeles, two officers came under fire, initially stirring concerns they had been ambushed days after two New York City officers were killed. But an investigation found the LAPD officers drove into gang-related gunfire Sunday.
