Man seen on video kidnapping woman gets 35 years in prison

Published June 30, 2016

Associated Press

A man seen on surveillance video grabbing a screaming, struggling woman off a Philadelphia street has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Thirty-nine-year-old Delvin Barnes pleaded guilty last year to a federal kidnapping charge and was sentenced Thursday.

He admitted he grabbed a 22-year-old nursing assistant near a bus stop in 2014 and forced her into his car because he needed travel money.

A massive manhunt ensued. Federal agents found Barnes and the woman three days later in his car in Jessup, Maryland.

Barnes' plea agreement also required him to admit the abduction of a 16-year-old Virginia girl. Authorities say he hit her with a shovel and took her to a mobile home, where he doused her in bleach and gasoline before she escaped.
