Man pleads guilty to manslaughter charge in son's Ohio death

Published January 08, 2016

Associated Press

A man who accidentally ran over his 4-year-old son in Ohio has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter count and a felony forgery charge.

Natividad (nah-tihv-ee-DAHD') de Jesus Hernandez entered the pleas Wednesday, days before a scheduled Union County trial. The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1VO46qG ) reports the prosecutor and defense attorneys are recommending the 32-year-old be sentenced to six months in jail, then five years' probation, under a plea deal.

Authorities allege he hit the boy with a van on Dec. 26, 2013. He originally pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated vehicular homicide.

An immigration investigator says Hernandez is from El Salvador and used a permanent resident card with someone else's registration number. The government dropped federal immigration charges against him.
