Man Named as Part of US Terror Plot Arrested

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- A man arrested in Kosovo is accused of helping terrorists abroad as part of a plot that originated in North Carolina.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh says 29-year-old Bajram Asllani of Mitrovica, Kosovo, was arrested Thursday. Federal and state authorities say he's charged with providing material support to terrorists and conspiring to murder, kidnap, maim and injure people abroad

Authorities say Asllani was named in an April criminal complaint that was unsealed Thursday accusing him of being part of a conspiracy that's resulted in the indictment of eight people. They include Daniel Patrick Boyd and two of his sons, all U.S. citizens.

The U.S. plans to seek Asllani's extradition from Kosovo to North Carolina, where he faces a maximum of 40 years in prison if convicted.
