Man gets life for shooting at spring break house party

Published March 19, 2016

Associated Press

An Alabama man has received seven life sentences for the shooting and wounding of seven people at a Florida house party during spring break last year.

The Panama City News Herald (http://goo.gl/jV0MO3) reports that 22-year-old David Jamichael Daniels was sentenced Friday. He was convicted in January of seven counts of attempted murder as well as shooting into an occupied building.

A defense attorney argued that the injuries sustained by the victims didn't warrant a life sentence for Daniels.

The shooting prompted Panama City Beach officials to pass a series of emergency ordinances cracking down on the raucous party atmosphere that draws thousands of college and high school students each spring. The Panhandle town has long been known as a major spring break destination.
