Man accused of forcing Fort Bragg soldier into prostitution

Published February 05, 2016

Associated Press

A North Carolina man has been arrested on charges that he forced a 19-year-old female Fort Bragg soldier into prostitution.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1L3hKzM ) that 23-year-old Jibri Thomas is accused of exploiting the soldier from August until December. Thomas turned himself in to police on Jan. 11. He faces state and federal charges related to prostitution and human trafficking.

Court documents cited by the newspaper allege Thomas recruited and transported the soldier with the intent of holding her in "involuntary servitude" for prostitution. Police have refused to release any information about the coercion.

Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum told the newspaper he doesn't know of any other such case at Fort Bragg.

Thomas' attorney, Meleaha Kimrey, did not immediately respond to a request for comment left with a woman who answered the phone at her office.
