Dec. 11: A medical examiner arrives at the apartment building where Mark Madoff lived in New York. Mark, one of Bernard Madoff's sons, was found dead of an apparent suicide, according to a law enforcement official. (AP)

The widow of Bernard Madoff's son says she threw up when she returned to the New York apartment where he hanged himself.

Stephanie Mack had vowed never to go back there after Mark Madoff's December 2010 suicide.

But Mack says in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine that she took her two young children to the apartment to return "normalcy" to their lives.

Mack wrote a memoir, "The End of Normal: A Wife's Anguish, A Widow's New Life."

She's dropped Madoff from her name. She and Mark chose Mack by combining the M from Madoff with ACK, the airport code for Nantucket, where the couple married. They didn't want their children to carry the Madoff name.

Bernie Madoff is serving 150 years in prison for a vast Ponzi scheme.
