Life in prison for Fla man for killing wife, twins

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A nearly bankrupt ex-mortgage broker who said he snapped when he fatally shot his wife and 7-year-old twin sons has been sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.

As part of a deal with Palm Beach County prosecutors, 51-year-old Neal Jacobson pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Jacobson first killed his wife, Franki Jacobson. Then he killed their sons, Eric and Joshua, while they lay sleeping in their beds in January 2010 in their South Florida home.

The Palm Beach Post (http://bit.ly/zNFlC5 ) reports that prosecutors had initially planned to seek the death penalty. Jacobson's attorneys had planned to use an insanity defense. The defense team had planned to call experts to testify that Neal Jacobson was bi-polar and under the influence of anti-depressants.
