Lawyers ask to relocate carjack killings trial

Lawyers for a man sentenced to death in the 2001 carjack killings of two Massachusetts men have repeated their request to move his retrial out of Boston.

The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/1RXmEVE ) attorneys for Gary Lee Sampson argue in a motion unsealed Thursday that pretrial publicity will make it impossible to pick a fair and impartial jury for the retrial in federal court in Boston.

Sampson pleaded guilty and was given the federal death penalty for the killings of 19-year-old Jonathan Rizzo, of Kingston, and 69-year-old Philip McCloskey, of Taunton. He also received a separate life sentence for killing a third man in New Hampshire during the same weeklong rampage.

Sampson's death sentence was overturned in 2011 after a judge found that a juror had lied about her background.
