Jury selection to begin in teen's prep school dismissal

Published November 01, 2016

Associated Press

Jury selection is scheduled to begin in the trial of a lawsuit filed by the mother of a teen who was kicked out of an elite New Hampshire prep school after having sex with another student.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court Aug. 30 against Phillips Exeter Academy. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Tuesday, with the trial scheduled to start the week of Nov. 14.

The lawsuit focuses on the dismissal of the unidentified 15-year-old boy. The mother alleges the school said her son would be involuntarily removed from the school for sexual harassment if he didn't withdraw himself.

School officials say the case was handled fairly.
