Jury selection set to begin in trial of Connecticut man accused of threatening state judge

Published May 21, 2015

Associated Press

A Connecticut man is headed toward trial to fight allegations that he made threatening comments about a state judge who was overseeing his divorce case.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Wednesday in Middletown Superior Court in the case of 49-year-old Edward "Ted" Taupier (TOPE'-ee-ay) of Cromwell.

Prosecutors say Taupier sent an email to six acquaintances last August that included threatening comments against Family Court Judge Elizabeth Bozzuto, who didn't receive the message.

The email described Bozzuto's home and its proximity to a cemetery, and Taupier wrote about using weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Taupier's lawyer says the comments were made in frustration and Taupier never intended to harm the judge.

Authorities seized 15 firearms and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition from Taupier's home in August.
