Jury ends day without a verdict in sport institute trial

The jury in the embezzlement trial of the founder of a Rhode Island-based international sport institute has ended another day of deliberations without a verdict.

Dan Doyle is the founder of the Institute for International Sport. He faces 18 counts, including embezzlement and forgery.

The jury has been deliberating since Monday at Washington County Superior Court. The state attorney general's office said the jury didn't reach a verdict by the end of the day Wednesday.

Doyle, of West Hartford, Connecticut, is a former college basketball coach and boxing promoter for Sugar Ray Leonard.

Prosecutors say he pillaged the institute and couldn't account for hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and state grants.

His lawyer argued that he didn't do anything criminal and suggested the institute's board was to blame.
