Jury convicts man in fatal shooting during argument over dog

Published May 06, 2019

Associated Press

A Colorado man accused of killing his neighbor during an argument over how the victim disciplined his dog has been convicted of first-degree murder.

The Denver Post reports 33-year-old Michael Sadeghi was found guilty Monday in the March 27, 2018, death of 42-year-old Dustin Schmidt. Sadeghi is scheduled to be sentenced June 24.

Prosecutors say a German shepherd mix belonging to Schmidt's girlfriend jumped a back fence into Sadeghi's yard. The dog, Bruno, was hanging by his leash when Schmidt pulled the animal back over the fence into his yard.

An argument ensued, and Sadeghi shot Schmidt four times.
