Judge OKs letting charity founded by Jerry Sandusky dissolve

A judge has agreed to let the charity founded by convicted former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky dissolve.

The Centre Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1pcHxky) reports a Centre County judge granted The Second Mile organization's request after a hearing on Thursday.

The charity's attorney says Sandusky's conviction made it nearly impossible for the charity he founded in 1977 to continue. The charity's stated purpose was helping disadvantaged children, but Sandusky is serving decades in prison after he was convicted of molesting several boys, including some he met through the charity.

The ruling formalizes the board's decision in July to close the charity. Some $750,000 in remaining assets will be turned over to the attorney general's office, which regulates charities.
