Judge declares mistrial in federal agent's Hawaii murder case

A Hawaii judge has declared a mistrial after jurors said they're at an impasse in determining whether a federal agent is guilty of murder in the early-morning shooting of a customer at a McDonald's restaurant in Waikiki.

Judge Karen Ahn polled jurors on Monday after the jury foreman said more time would not allow for a unanimous verdict in the trial of State Department Special Agent Christopher Deedy.

All jurors agreed they could not reach a verdict.

Ahn set a hearing for Friday to determine a date for a new trial.

The jury began deliberating Aug. 15.

The 29-year-old Deedy of Arlington, Va., is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Kollin Elderts.
