Judge blasts repeated delays in jailed man's terrorism trial

A federal judge says she's unhappy that a suburban Chicago terrorism suspect is still in jail awaiting trial nearly four years after his arrest in an FBI sting.

Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman said at a hearing Tuesday that the delays in Adel Daoud's case are "not justice" and that she fears the 21-year-old's trial may not happen until next year.

The latest obstacle is Daoud's delayed transfer to a prison hospital for fresh mental examinations because the facility is full. Coleman ordered the tests in January after Daoud spoke in court about a Freemasons' conspiracy against him.

Daoud was arrested in 2012 after placing an inert bomb outside a Chicago bar.

Defense attorney Thomas Durkin says the government sting targeted someone "who wasn't stable" and that "now he's destabilized" further.
