Jamaican DJ in Minn. court for fleeing drug trial

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A popular Jamaican deejay who fled the U.S. to avoid a trial a decade ago on a drug charge has made his first court appearance in the Minnesota case since being re-arrested.

Glendale Goshia Gordon, who performs under the name Busy Signal, was detained in London and then arrested last month when his flight landed in Kingston, Jamaica, for traveling with false documents.

Gordon was arrested in Minneapolis in January 2002, and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He fled to Jamaica before trial.

Gordon waived extradition. His attorney, Bill Mauzy (MOW'-zee), said he had no comment Wednesday. Gordon is due to be formally charged next week.

Busy Signal is best known for dancehall tracks "Step Out" and "These Are the Days."
