Interviews show condemned Oklahoma inmate chatted with execution team before botched injection

Newly released records show a condemned Oklahoma inmate chatted with members of his execution team before a botched lethal injection last spring and even recommended a vein to a paramedic charged with setting up his intravenous line.

Transcripts of interviews with prison and medical personnel inside the death chamber were among more than 5,000 pages of documents the Department of Public Safety released Tuesday to The Associated Press after a lawsuit by the Tulsa World. The department released a 32-page summary of its investigation in September but did not release the documents connected to its probe until after the newspaper sued for their release.

The unnamed paramedic told DPS investigators that Clayton Lockett was calm and talkative with members of the execution team on April 29 before the botched injection.
