Ind. school shooting suspect appears in court

Published January 13, 2015

Prosecutors want a 15-year-old boy tried in adult court for allegedly shooting another student twice outside their central Indiana middle school.

The 15-year-old appeared Monday in Morgan Superior Court to hear five felony charges read against him. They are the juvenile delinquency equivalents of attempted murder, aggravated battery, trespassing and two school firearms charges. The shooting occurred Friday morning at Martinsville West Middle School. The boy had been expelled earlier last week.

Morgan Superior Court Christopher Burnham set an April 18 hearing on prosecutors' request to waive the boy into adult court. He also ordered the boy held at the nearby Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center pending another hearing Friday.

Fifteen-year-old shooting victim Chance Jackson is in serious condition after being shot twice in the abdomen.
